ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION

Northern Rivers Women and Children’s Services Incorporated (NORWACS) is a feminist, community-based charity that provides health and wellbeing services for the diversity of women, and their children, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.

Our services recognise and challenge the effects of sex-role stereotyping and gender discrimination on women’s health and wellbeing. We work to empower women to determine their individual health needs and to make and access evidence informed choices.

We recognise health involves emotional, social, physical and spiritual well-being, and that this is impacted by the social, economic, political and cultural conditions of communities and wider society. This approach is informed by the World Health Organisation’s definition of health as a complete state of physical, mental and social wellbeing, not merely the absence of disease (1946).

NORWACS is a full member of and adheres to the aims and objectives of Women’s Health NSW, the peak body for non-government community-based women’s health centres in New South Wales. (insert link to highlighted area: https://whnsw.asn.au/ )
