Insightful Counselling Service

Women seek counselling for various reasons and can access the service if they are currently living with abuse, looking to understand the impact of Domestic Violence, seeking to escape or women endeavoring to live a life free of abuse.
Insightful Counselling provides:
- A specialist domestic violence counselling by appointment for women and young people affected by domestic/ family violence for those residing in the refuge and living in the community.
- Free, confidential counselling in a safe supportive environment.
- We have counselling available on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Lismore Women’s Resource Centre
- Clients are offered an initial 6 sessions of individual counselling with an option to extend if necessary
- Women may devise safety plans; receive information to make informed decisions and choices about their lives and referrals to other relevant services etc. Telephone counselling is made available to women unable to access the centre.
Groups for Women
Women’s support groups are held at the Lismore Women’s Resource Centre each Thursday from 10am-12pm during school terms.
The types of groups running from the centre include:

- Understanding Domestic Violence
- New Beginnings
- Grief and loss after an abusive relationship
- Women exploring Anger
- Holistic healing and wellbeing
- Boundaries
IT Centre
Lismore Women’s Resource Centre recognises that unequal access to power in society can be linked to an unequal access to resources. As such it provides women over the age of fifteen with free access to computers and the Internet during drop-in hours.
- The computer is available for use in half hour blocks. If there is nobody waiting to use the computer at the end of the half hour women are free to continue until such a time that there are people waiting
- Staff are available to assist women who require help in navigating the computer or Internet
- Limited printing is available at the front desk
- The centre will not be responsible for any breaches of privacy if women do not log out of accounts when finished.
